The unit can also help researchers make protocols\/research plans and prepare ethics committee permission processes. With this permission, it is possible to invite consent givers to a so-called recall study through the biobank. The biobank can identify individuals potentially suitable for the study based on inclusion and exclusion criteria by combining genotypic and phenotypic data. The recall is conducted by biobank.<\/p>\n<p>We are prepared to conduct recall studies in which individuals at genetic risk or otherwise identified (e.g., diagnosed with a specific disease) are invited by biobanks to participate in scientific research.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-1648\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-1648\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tTransfer Processes for Multimodal Imaging Data from KUH Imaging Center to the UEF\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-1648\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-1648\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>A written guideline has been prepared\u00a0for the transfer process of multimodal image data from the KUH Imaging Center&#8217;s PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) server to the university&#8217;s high-performance computing environment (https:\/\/bioinformatics.uef.fi\/):<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best practices for brain imaging data transfer process from Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) and University of Eastern Finland (UEF),\u00a0<\/strong>Jussi Tohka, UEF, Mehran Shabanpour, UEF;\u00a0<strong>version 1.2., 22.1.2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The guideline applies only to data collected with the subject&#8217;s consent, not to data covered by secondary use legislation.<\/p>\n<p>The PACS server data primarily consists of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), but the use of computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) image data is also possible. The comprehensive guide includes information on the necessary permits and agreements, data extraction from PACS, pseudonymization, data transfer in small and large transfers, data storage at the University of Eastern Finland, conversion of data from DICOM format to NIFTI format (MRI, CT), conversion of data from DICOM format to NIFTI format (PET, SPECT), and data storage according to the BIDS structure (BIDS standard; <a href=\"https:\/\/bids.neuroimaging.io\/\">https:\/\/bids.neuroimaging.io\/<\/a>). These guidelines help standardize and clarify the transfer of image data.<\/p>\n<p>The guideline is intended for <strong>UEF\u2019s researchers<\/strong> and is available upon request from the UEF Brain Research Center (email:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:bru@uef.fi\">bru@uef.fi<\/a>; Use the title \u201d<strong>Best practices for brain imaging data\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>in your email). The guideline is updated periodically, so please ensure you have the latest version.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have access to open-source solutions integrated into the UEF\u2019s environment for image data analysis (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/UEFbioimageanalysis\/MRIpipelines\">https:\/\/github.com\/UEFbioimageanalysis\/MRIpipelines<\/a>).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In connection with the unit, there is an <strong>accredited <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/aivobiomarkkeritutkimukset\/?lang=en\">Biomarker Laboratory<\/a><\/strong>, which performs Alzheimer\u2019s disease marker analysis from plasma and cerebrospinal fluid and plasma neurofilament analytics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Services and operations are actively developed through the ongoing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uefconnect.uef.fi\/en\/group\/uef-brain-research-unit-2.0\/\">UEF Brain Research Unit 2.0<\/a> ERDF development project<\/strong> (2023\u20132025), among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We can customize the service package as needed. The project aims to bridge the gap between research and precision medicine to help people better understand what they can do to mitigate and slow down cognitive decline. The goal of the <span class=\"cf0\">AD-RIDDLE project is to revolutionize the detection, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of AD across healthcare settings. The project will introduce a toolbox platform concept, offering validated tools at each critical step. The results of the CAIDE study provided information on a number of risk and protective factors for dementia, including genetics and lifestyle interactions.
