Based on our legal expertise, we work in multidisciplinary teams on the following research:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/cceel-testi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/522\/12.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9541\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\t<div id=\"accordion-block_f008caf1be42575873b06d30e14ab60e\" class=\"accordions\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-9770\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-9770\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tResilience of complex legal systems in sustainability transformation (RELIEF)\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-9770\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-9770\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>RELIEF examines how legal systems influence the transformation towards sustainability, with the aim of achieving ambitious climate, biodiversity and environmental goals within this decade, while preserving key values upheld by the EU legal frameworks, such as democratic decision-making, the distribution of power and competitive markets. The project works closely with public authorities, legislative processes, pioneering companies and civil society actors to update policies and clarify the roles of public and private actors in promoting sustainability.<\/p>\n<h5>Project duration: 2023 \u2013 2026<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/cceel\/resilience-of-complex-legal-systems-in-sustainability-transformation\/\">Learn more about RELIEF here.<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-8461\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-8461\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tTransformative cities\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-8461\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-8461\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The project aims to promote sustainable and respectful lifestyles through zero-emission transport, biodiversity conservation and prioritising human well-being. To achieve this, it uses both active and passive sensing techniques. Active methods include participatory mapping and serious gaming to understand people&#8217;s living patterns, while passive sensing includes big data analytics for mobility insights. The project&#8217;s findings will be transferred to policy-making to adapt transformative governance methods, with the ultimate goal of supporting carbon neutrality, biodiversity conservation and sustainable urban lifestyles in Finland by 2030.<\/p>\n<h5>Project duration: 2023 \u2013 2025<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/cceel\/transformative-cities\/\">Learn more about Transformative Cities here.<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-1740\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-1740\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tCoherent and cross-compliant ocean governance for delivering the EU Green Deal for European Seas (CrossGov)\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-1740\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-1740\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>CrossGov examines the coherence of multi-level and multi-sectoral marine policies to better address biodiversity loss and protect marine ecosystems in the face of rapid change. It focuses on improving the environmental and social cross-compliance of marine policies in the EU and in case studies in the North Sea, Baltic Sea and Mediterranean Sea. The project aims to align policies with the objectives of the EU Green Deal, using innovative methods to identify and address gaps, weaknesses and inconsistencies in marine
