Climate tipping points refer to critical thresholds where climate and environmental stresses could lead to abrupt and irreversible changes. At this event, we will delve into the latest research on the current state of climate change including its impact on the North Atlantic Ocean currents. We will present and discuss the climate scenarios specifically awaiting Finland should we fail to meet the climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement and climate laws, and if the Atlantic thermohaline circulation weakens or stops. We will also discuss what we currently know about climate tipping points and the probabilities associated with their surpassing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The science overview will be followed by a panel discussion with our distinguished panelists Eva Biaudet, Atte Harjanne, Kaisa Kosonen and Yulia Yamineva on international and domestic actions to prevent the crossing of the climate tipping points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A policy brief outlining our findings will be published prior to the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is based on the research conducted under the Finnish Flagship \u201cAtmosphere and Climate Competence Center (ACCC) coordinated by University of Helsinki, Finnish Meteorological Institute, Tampere University and University of Eastern Finland. The event is co-organised in cooperation with the 2035Legitimacy project, funded by the Strategic Research Council. The event is in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
