Impact
CHARTIST will contribute to: (1) enhancing cooperation and transfer of knowledge between disciplines; (2) increasing employability of the staff both in and outside academia; (3) development of the knowledge-based economy and society; (4) increase in international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral mobility of researchers in Europe etc. By designing new generation of helicity-tunable THz devices CHARTIST will contribute to the overcoming the Terahertz gap and therefore solving various scientific and technological problems (from biology to astronomy) addressing many of social challenges (THz imaging and visualization for medicine, technological non-disruptive control, security and many others). CHARTIST goal is to examine several technological strategies to fabricate chiral THz metamaterials. The project SMEs will be the main driving force of benchmarking and formulation of most efficient exploitation strategies in terms of fabrication technology and THz performance.
Roadmap of the CHARTIST’s results and outcomes commercial exploitation (including further steps like funding / investments to scaling-up, investigating the barriers, and regulatory) after the project end will be design during the last year of the project implementation. The decision on creation of start-up will be made on this stage of the project implementation. Having close relations with the business associations (Photonics Finland and Business Finland) and using wide experience of Technology transfer offices of the academic partners CHARTIST will take into account necessary financial commitments, capitals, risks, possibility to have further R&D funding of the invention lead to particular innovation, etc. Potential markets relevant to CHARTIST foreground will be identified and studied in detail, including regional demand, market needs, trends, growth and segmentation, industry participants, distribution patterns, main competition (competitors and competitive solutions) to help determine the best strategy to target market segment, profit margins and economic feasibility of CHARTIST product. Exploitation plan will be made at the beginning of the project (WP6). It will cover exploitation activities to be carried out after the CHARTIST project implementation ends. Coordinator and participating SMEs will be responsible for the exploitation of the project results. In order to avoid potential conflict of interest between SMEs involves, the exploitation issues will be addressed in the IPR agreement, which will be signed within 6 months after the amended project starting date.
Uniting five well-recognized academic partners and four SMEs the CHARTIS action has fundamental character and as part of the “Metamaterials for Photonics” flow will contribute to the rise of the potential of individuals and improve their career perspectives in research and innovations within this strongly networked European Metamaterials and Photonics communities. In the course of the project implementation, the researchers will gain skills and expertise that are not available in their home institutions and will bring new knowledge back to their organization and countries.
