{"id":184,"date":"2021-07-06T11:37:07","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T09:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/impdet\/?page_id=184"},"modified":"2025-06-30T12:16:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T10:16:20","slug":"eligibility-and-admission-criteria","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/impdet\/how-to-apply\/eligibility-and-admission-criteria\/","title":{"rendered":"Eligibility and admission criteria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who can apply?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Universities Act (558\/2009 Section 37), the applicant is eligible for education leading to an academic licentiate or doctoral degree if they have completed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a relevant Master\u2019s degree awarded by a university;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a relevant Master\u2019s degree awarded by a university of applied sciences; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a relevant applicable study programme abroad which in the awarding country gives eligibility for the corresponding level of higher education.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of a degree completed abroad, eligibility is generally granted by a higher education degree completed in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process (3+2 years). If the degree has been completed in a country that does not follow the Bologna Process, eligibility may also be granted by a higher education degree or a combination of degrees comprising at least four (4) years of studies and including a Master\u2019s thesis or equivalent final project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admission requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The IMPDET applicants apply depending on their previous academic studies and research interests either to the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology (field of study: computer science) or to the Philosophical Faculty (field of studies: adult education, educational science, special education). Every doctoral student in UEF needs to belong to one of the UEF doctoral programmes.  Since IMPDET itself is not an independent doctoral programme at UEF, the applicants have the following two options: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Option 1: When the field of study is computer science, the applicant applies to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uef.fi\/en\/degree-programme\/doctoral-programme-in-science-forestry-and-technology\">Doctoral Programme in Science, Forestry and Technology<\/a> (LUMETO) in the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Option 2: When the field of study is adult education, educational science, or special education, the applicant applies to\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uef.fi\/en\/degree-programme\/doctoral-programme-of-the-philosophical-faculty\">Doctoral Programme of the Philosophical Faculty<\/a> (FILOTO)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The specific admission requirements for LUMETO and FILOTO doctoral programmes can be found on their websites.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who can apply?
