{"id":15,"date":"2022-10-04T06:13:54","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T06:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/?page_id=15"},"modified":"2024-02-26T16:12:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-26T14:12:00","slug":"frontpage","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <em><strong>University of Eastern Finland <\/strong><\/em>and its <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/cceel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>were pleased to host the <em><strong>20th Annual Colloquium of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law<\/strong><\/em> in Joensuu, Finland, from 31 July \u2013 4 August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, 330 scholars and practitioners from over 50 different nationalities attended this hybrid conference, around 190 of which came to Joensuu in person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/393\/2023\/12\/COLLOQUIUM-2023-2-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/393\/2023\/12\/COLLOQUIUM-2023-2-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/393\/2023\/12\/COLLOQUIUM-2023-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/393\/2023\/12\/COLLOQUIUM-2023-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/393\/2023\/12\/COLLOQUIUM-2023-2-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/iucn-ael-2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/393\/2023\/12\/COLLOQUIUM-2023-2.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 250 abstracts were presented in the conference week to both an in-person and an online audience, all under the theme <strong><em>\u201cFuture-proofing Law in a Time of Environmental Emergency\u201d<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keynote speeches were given by Liz Fisher, Kari Kuusiniemi, Louis Kotz\u00e9, Tessa Khan and Josephine van Zeben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For 20 years, the Colloquium has provided an important forum for legal scholars and experts from all over the world to come together to exchange knowledge, experiences and fellowship.
