Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration (ERFC)<\/strong>\u00a0
\u00a0
The Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration (ERFC)<\/strong> is a global consortium led by the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) at the University of Cambridge<\/strong>, bringing together data from over 130 prospective studies across 30+ countries<\/strong>. With a combined dataset of approximately 2.5 million participants<\/strong>, the ERFC conducts in-depth individual-participant data (IPD) meta-analyses<\/strong> to study risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and cause-specific mortality<\/strong>. Key risk factors examined include circulating lipid markers, inflammatory markers, glycaemia markers, adiposity markers, diabetes, and cardiometabolic multimorbidity<\/strong>.\u00a0

IMPROVE Study<\/strong>

The IMPROVE study<\/strong> is a multi-centre randomized controlled trial<\/strong> investigating whether pausing Bruton Tyrosine Kinase (BTK) inhibitor therapy<\/strong> during SARS-CoV-2 vaccination<\/strong> improves immune responses in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) patients<\/strong>. CLL is the most common adult leukaemia in the UK, affecting around 31,900 people<\/strong>, primarily those over 60 years old<\/strong>. The study aims to enhance vaccine effectiveness in this vulnerable group\u00a0

NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC)<\/strong>

The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC)<\/strong> is a global network of health scientists providing high-quality data on non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factors<\/strong> across 200 countries<\/strong>. Coordinated by the WHO Collaborating Centre at Imperial College London<\/strong>, led by Professor Majid Ezzati<\/strong>, it pools data from 3,300+ surveys<\/strong> with nearly 200 million participants<\/strong> since 1957. NCD-RisC works closely with the WHO<\/strong> and is funded by organizations like the Wellcome Trust, MRC, EU, and CDC<\/strong>, supporting advanced statistical analyses to track and understand NCD risk factors worldwide.\u00a0

PROG-IMT (Individual Progression of Carotid Intima Media Thickness as a Surrogate for Vascular Risk)<\/strong>\u00a0

PROG-IMT<\/strong> (Individual Progression of Carotid Intima Media Thickness<\/strong> as a Surrogate for Vascular Risk) is a research project aimed at evaluating carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) progression<\/strong> as a reliable marker for vascular risk<\/strong>. Through a three-step meta-analysis using individual participant data<\/strong>, the study investigates whether IMT progression predicts cardiovascular events<\/strong> such as heart attacks, strokes, or death<\/strong>, both in general populations<\/strong> and disease cohorts<\/strong>, and whether changes in IMT due to treatment reflect actual clinical benefits<\/strong>.\u00a0

Active@Work<\/strong> is an EU-funded project<\/strong> aimed at improving the quality of life for elderly workers<\/strong> in the service sector<\/strong>. With rising retirement ages, the project recognizes the value of senior employees’ experience and knowledge<\/strong> while addressing challenges in keeping them active and efficient<\/strong> without health risks. It seeks to debunk myths about aging and learning<\/strong>, leveraging innovative technologies<\/strong> to support skill development and workplace adaptation. A consortium of seven partners<\/strong> collaborates to create solutions that enable elderly employees to stay engaged and transfer their expertise<\/strong> to younger workers.\u00a0
