Her departmental leadership role in EDI (equality diversity and inclusion) and postgraduate teaching on sustainable global supply chains sparked her interest in exploring menopause as a critical justice-based element of ageing and women\u2019s health.\u00a0 Initial work was undertaken with a gender diverse group of international postgraduate students to examine demand and supply chain access to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in a global context during COVID-19. The exercise evidenced a dearth of scholarly research on praxes of &#8216;menopausing&#8217; and less so on racialised, marginalised women in transition.\u00a0Zaina\u00a0is dedicated to exploring a range of diverse spaces and places in which \u2018menopausing\u2019 and community-based activism collide and thrive as areas in which cultural knowledge, sense-making and communication is safe, diverse, caring and inclusive.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zaina\u00a0explores the heterogenic forms in which \u2018transition\u2019 phases of ageing women are embodied, lived and experienced, both individually and collectively.\u00a0 She uses transnational feminist theory as a lens to stimulate cross-disciplinary research collaboration.\u00a0 Her passion for centring racialised, often marginalised voices from diverse backgrounds seeks to cultivate cultures of liberative inclusion and diversity as an overarching imperative to decolonise \u2018menopausing\u2019 spaces away from the typically conventionally stigmatised, stereo-typed and exclusionary forms of knowledge production and communication.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"links-block\">\n\n    \n    <ul class=\"link-list\">\n        \n            \n            <li class=\"link-list-item\">\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northumbria.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-staff\/g\/zaina-gadema\/\" class=\"link-reset link hover-scale-down\">\n                    <svg\n        width=\"43\" height=\"25\"\n        viewBox=\"0 0 43 25\"\n        xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n    <path\n        d=\"M30.027 0 43 12.5 30.027 25 27 22.083 34.351 15H0v-5h34.351L27 2.917z\"\n        fill=\"currentColor\"\n        fill-rule=\"evenodd\"\/>\n<\/svg>                    <div>Northumbria University &#8211; Dr Zaina Gadema <\/div>\n                <\/a>\n                <div class=\"link-info\">\n                                    <\/div>\n            <\/li>\n\n                <\/ul>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zaina is our UK research lead and holds a lifelong commitment to justice-based sustainability research and practice.
