Abstract:

Collaboration with others in learning mathematics can affect students’ learning, motivation, and attitudes toward themselves and others. In this presentation, we aim to unveil what is described in the literature as collaboration in mathematics and which kinds of learning tasks provide fruitful grounds for successful collaboration between students. We also present the analysis grid that was used in analyzing the collaborative tasks that Finnish comprehensive school mathematics textbooks provided during the national core curriculum for basic education 1994 and 2004.
