Destination: Aarhus, Denmark. After a short pause in Copenhagen and a bus ride across the countryside, I was finally there \u2014 ready to spend two days immersed in science at the <a href=\"https:\/\/dandrite.au.dk\/news\/events\/dandrite-symposium\"><strong>DANDRITE Symposium<\/strong>. <\/a>The theme was <em>The Adaptive Brain<\/em>, and the talks were every bit fascinating as the title promised. What struck me most was not just the results being presented, but also the big questions the researchers were asking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The keynote lectures were especially memorable. <strong>Dr. Anne Schaefer<\/strong> from the Max Planck Institute shared her group\u2019s work on microglia and the epigenetic mechanisms of cellular plasticity in neurodegeneration. Later, <strong>Dr. Elly Nedivi<\/strong> from MIT took us into the world of synapse formation and elimination in the mouse neocortex, combining elegant genetic tools with in vivo imaging \u2014 it was both scientifically impressive and visually stunning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other sessions that really caught my attention included <strong>Professor Vijay Tiwari\u2019s<\/strong> presentation from the University of Southern Denmark, where he showed how computational and AI-driven approaches are helping to unravel the gene regulatory code underlying neurodevelopmental disorders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professor J\u00f8rgen Kjems <\/strong>from Aarhus University discussed the role of circular RNAs in neural development and disease \u2014 a particularly exciting area, as noncoding RNAs like circRNAs are increasingly being recognized as potential therapeutic targets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professor Fides Zenk<\/strong> from EPFL gave a fascinating talk on using brain organoids to reconstruct developmental trajectories of the brain, while <strong>Professor Jakob Balslev S\u00f8rensen<\/strong> from Copenhagen University introduced us to \u201cSNAREopathies,\u201d diseases of the synaptic release machinery that beautifully link molecular mechanisms with human. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sara Sejer S\u00f8rensen<\/strong> from Thomas Kim\u2019s group , presented <em>EZ-HCR<\/em>, a tissue-clearing method that dramatically reduces the process to just 10 days with much less hands-on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1379\" height=\"779\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/neuro-innovation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/172\/2025\/09\/Picture1.jpg\" alt=\"People attending the DANDRITE conference\" class=\"wp-image-5025\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/neuro-innovation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/172\/2025\/09\/Picture1.jpg 1379w, https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/neuro-innovation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/172\/2025\/09\/Picture1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/neuro-innovation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/172\/2025\/09\/Picture1-1024x578.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/neuro-innovation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/172\/2025\/09\/Picture1-768x434.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1379px) 100vw, 1379px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Jens Hartmann Schmidt, AU Photo &amp; Rikke Lindhard, DANDRITE<br><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I&#8217;ve Learned about Poster Sessions at Conferences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Amidst all this, I had the chance to present my own poster. If you\u2019ve read <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uef.fi\/neuro-innovation\/2025\/01\/30\/meheli-banerjee-seizing-control-the-fight-against-post-traumatic-epilepsy\/\">my earlier posts<\/a>, you already know I\u2019m interested in <strong>traumatic brain injury (TBI)<\/strong> and its link to <strong>post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE)<\/strong>, a condition that affects millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this part of my project, I\u2019m working to develop an<em> in vitro<\/em> system to mimic aspects of TBI-associated temporal molecular changes. Easy to follow posters which only have the important pieces of the story and not all every light bulb moment you ever had.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Take time to design your poster<\/strong>. We are advised to not judge a book by its cover but good visuals always help!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Engage your audience<\/strong>. No matter how awkward it is don\u2019t look at your phone while you wait.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope these lessons resonate with you.
