Eligible applications also underwent an ethics check. Eligible applications that passed the ethics check moved then on to the next stage of the selection process: external peer review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The peer review process is organised by the European Science Foundation. Each research proposal and CV will be evaluated independently by three scientific experts. We will receive the peer reviews in June 2026, after which applications whose points pass the threshold will move onto the next round (Selection Committee review).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants have been contacted personally. Six (6) researchers have been offered postdoctoral positions at the University of Eastern Finland through the NOVEL MSCA Postdoctoral Programme programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selected postdocs are expected to start working before the end of February, 2026. They will working in the A.I. Virtanen Institute and Institute of Biomedicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Eastern Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our second call opens on December 1, 2025. We will postdoctoral researcher positions open in<br>&#8211; the research areas of Innovation in Society and Ethics &amp; Wellbeing at the Business School, Law School and Department of Health and Social Management (5 positions)<br>&#8211; the research areas of Prevention &amp; Care and Methods &amp; Data at the A.I. Virtanen Institute and School of Computing (at least 3 positions)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Link to the online application system will be added to our webpage once the call opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">28.10.2025 <strong>Call 1 Selection Committee Review results are in<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We have now received Selection Committee review results for our Call 1 applications! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Selection Committee consisted of experts who were not involved in the previous evaluation stage. These include: a senior academic chair from outside UEF, two international external science experts, an external industrial expert, and a HR expert from UEF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each research proposal and CV was evaluated by the academic chair and science experts. The industrial expert evaluated only the section on impact of the research proposals. The HR expert was involved in the SelectC meeting to secure a non-discriminatory approach with special attention to DEI issues and the transparency of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The committee has provided both numerical scores and written feedback. Additionally, they ensured that the peer review process was conducted fairly and consistently. They held a consensus meeting in case there were consistent differences between the lowest and highest peer review scores peer review scores and decided on whether or not to take corrective action. As requested by the Appeals Committee, they also reviewed applicants&#8217; appeals and decided on whether or not to take corrective action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications that received enough points from the peer reviewers to pass the threshold of 24 points will now move onto the final round, where the <strong>Steering Committee makes a final ranking list and makes the final hiring decision.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final decision is based on the weighted final scores of the applicants (External peer review 60 % and the Selection Committee review 40 % of the total scores), as an average of the two stages of evaluation. The maximum weighted average score is 30 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications that did not receive enough points to pass the threshold to proceed to the next stage won&#8217;t continue further in the selection process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants have an opportunity to make an appeal in case there were errors in the selection process. Appeals are handled by the Appeals Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants have been contacted personally. Thank you to all applicants and good luck in the next stage! The Appeals Committee of the NOVEL Programme will consider the rebuttal, and if deemed necessary, it will be presented to the Selection Committee alongside the peer review reports. If the rebuttal is declared admissible and justified, corrective action can be taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants have been contacted personally.
