Research of Photonics in Joensuu campus consists of various topics from fundamental properties of light to large scale fabrication of optical nanostructures. Strong theoretical background combined with applied research covers areas like coherence theory, micro and nano photonics, biophotonics and optical materials research.

Laboratory of Photonics have access to the whole nanotechnology research facilities in University of Eastern Finland, including electron beam lithography and nano imprint lithography.
