Course introduces all phases of research data management and provides examples from various disciplines and data types.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The course explores the following questions&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How do different research methods and research questions relate to managing of the data?&nbsp; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do researchers perceive their own relationship to their data (feelings, experiences, everyday challenges)?&nbsp; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How and what kinds of digital tools are used in data collection, management and analysis?&nbsp; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is meant by data description and documentation, and how to<strong> <\/strong>carry it out in practice? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What kind of ethical and legal issues are involved in data management?&nbsp; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can open science be implemented with different kinds of research data and methods? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to make research data <strong>F<\/strong>indable, <strong>A<\/strong>ccessible, <strong>I<\/strong>nteroperable and <strong>R<\/strong>eusable and how they are implemented?&nbsp; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can data be stored during the research, or how can it be opened and stored after the research?&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Course details<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Schedule<\/strong>: Aug 5th \u2013 16th 2024, from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 3 pm (details in Moodle once the course is opened)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Modes of study<\/strong>: Pre assignment, active participation in contact teaching (e.g., following lectures, group exercises), independent study (e.g., reading materials provided during the course), outputs\/final assignments (Data Management Plan, a poster about RDM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For whom<\/strong>: The course is intended for doctoral students and for Master\u2019s degree students in the final stages of their studies who are planning doctoral studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lecturers<\/strong>: Guest lecturers and information specialists in research data management from UEF Library presenting different research fields and methods (see below). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong>: Through UEF Summer School<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Link <\/strong>to <a href=\"https:\/\/opas.peppi.uef.fi\/en\/course\/KI00DQ35\/127639?period=2024-2025\">Peppi<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Contact persons \/ coordinating teachers  (UEF Library)<\/strong>: Minna Rahnasto-Rilla, Manna Satama,  Anne Karhap\u00e4\u00e4 (study leave until the course starts), Kaisa Hartikainen (first name.last name@uef.fi)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Course coordinator<\/strong>: Niko Niskanen (UEF Library)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Learning objectives<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing the course, the student is able to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>identify the special characteristics of their research data and compare it with the data from other fields of research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>explain what constitutes good data management, the use of metadata that supports research, and good scientific practices related to data at different stages of research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>apply good and responsible data management practices in all phases of the research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>write a Data Management Plan (DMP) as a part of the research plan and to update the DMP<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>implement open science in data management, process and describe research data in a way that enables data reuse (sharing, archiving).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lecturers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Guest lecturers<\/strong> in alphabetical order (name and the title of the lecture or theme, if the title is not decided yet)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Capra, Janne.
