The learning material is organised into chapters covering key aspects of data management, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>legislation and ethical principles (e.g. contracts, copyright and access rights related to research data, the handling of personal data)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>storing and processing of research data during the research (e.g. University of Eastern Finland digital services, other storage solutions and services, data security)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>documentation and description (including creating and publishing metadata)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>possibilities and obligations related to sharing and opening research data&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>preserving and disposing of research data after the research project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>writing a data management plan (DMP) using the DMPTuuli tool.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>An optional additional module (1 ECTS) offers a deeper exploration of documentation and data description practices during the research project, as well as in connection with publishing or opening research data and\/or their metadata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing the course, you can<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>explain and exemplify what good research data management is and why it is important<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>illustrate good and responsible data management practices and apply those to your own research data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>apply your own organization&#8217;s and other relevant data management guidelines to your own research data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>write a data management plan (DMP) as part of the research plan and update it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to use this learning material<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This learning material has been produced in both English and Finnish. The links open in a new tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Themes of research data management in the context of open science are covered in the Basics of Open and Responsible Science -online course (8000EO42, 2 ECTS). Consider taking this course as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sub><sup>NB: This course partly equals the research data module that was part of 8022020 Research Information Retrieval and Management course (2 ECTS, 2017 &#8211; 2021).<\/sup><\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Self-directed study (without study credits)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can go through the learning material, check out the links for further reading and make notes. There are tips and questions along the way that are good to consider from your own point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have not yet written a data management plan, you might write one with the help of this study material. If you already have a data management plan, you can update it while going through the material.
