Virtual Exhibition 1: Encounter

The project’s first virtual exhibition brings together works on the theme of Encounter. The artworks were created as part of the research project’s art workshop in June 2023, during which young people worked both individually and in groups.

The individual works of art are made by using different drawing techniques. In the pictures, the young people describe their experiences of encounters between immigrants and Finns. The images convey the possibilities and uncertainties associated with inter-group encounters. They also reflect the experience of non-conformity when no contact is established, for one reason or another. At the same time, some of the drawings depict the everydayness of inter-group encounters.

The group works are made by painting. Groups of young people from different cultural backgrounds were formed to work together. In the group paintings, the young people have used various visual means, such as colours and textures, to depict encounters between people from different backgrounds.

As part of the research project, we will also collect research data from visitors to the exhibition. We want to find out what kind of thoughts the works in the virtual exhibitions evoke and how the visitors to the exhibitions interpret the works. We hope to gather as wide a range of experiences as possible from visitors to the virtual exhibitions, so your response would be paramount to us. It takes about 15 minutes to complete the exhibition survey, depending on the length of your answer. You can visit the exhibition without answering the questionnaire.
