The total area of the space is approximately 100 m\u00b2, located in the Educa building (E001 and E002) on UEF\u2019s Joensuu Campus.<\/p>\n<p>The facilities support the design, implementation and observation of pedagogical escape games. Versatile technical equipment enables the creation of game\u2011based learning situations and the documentation of learning processes for research and development purposes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Game Rooms<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Sm4rt LOC includes <strong>three game rooms<\/strong> designed for pedagogical escape games, which can be used flexibly either individually or as a combined multi-room experience. The rooms support physical and hybrid escape\u2011game activities, as well as other learning, research and observation scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>The rooms can be adapted to different needs. For example: One room can be used for instructions and post\u2011game debriefing, while the other two host the actual learning or gameplay situation for different groups. Alternatively, the escape-game experience can be constructed to progress through several rooms in sequence.<\/p>\n<p>The adaptability of the rooms is supported by a wide range of <strong>props<\/strong>, allowing the spaces to be customised for various pedagogical and narrative themes. Objects, fabrics, and visual elements help create immersive, experiential learning environments.<\/p>\n<p>The ICT solutions in the game rooms support flexible learning and gameplay. The <strong>lighting<\/strong> in the rooms can be adjusted to suit different situations, visual content can be displayed on the <strong>screens<\/strong> as needed, and various <strong>soundscapes<\/strong> can be introduced into the space through the speakers. Combined with the props, these elements enable experiential and immersive learning experiences.<\/p>\n<p>The rooms are also equipped with <strong>air-quality sensors<\/strong>, which measure sound levels, lighting, humidity and CO\u2082 concentration. Photo: Varpu Heiskanen, UEF<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Control Room<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The control room enables real\u2011time monitoring, observation and documentation of the activities taking place in the game rooms. Photo: Iiris Kangasniemi<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-4689\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-4689\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tHow Sm4rt LOC Can Be Used\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-4689\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-4689\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Sm4rt LOC is suitable for a wide range of activities in teaching, research, and the design, implementation and observation of pedagogical escape games and other learning scenarios.<br \/>\nThe space supports functional, experiential and interactive learning that utilises gamification, simulations and educational technology.<\/p>\n<p>The facilities and equipment enable, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>design and implementation of pedagogical escape games and game-based learning<\/li>\n<li>simulation sessions and simulation-based teaching<\/li>\n<li>group and individual work<\/li>\n<li>audio and video recording of learning situations<\/li>\n<li>recording podcasts and other learning materials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-8599\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-8599\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tPurpose and Timeline of the Development Project\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-8599\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-8599\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The aim of the project was to create a multifunctional environment that enables detailed observation of learning through high\u2011quality audio and video monitoring. A second aim was to design a space for implementing pedagogical escape games.
