Try using AI in search engines as well, and experiment with different types of questions. However, keep in mind that most well-known conversational AIs, such as Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI ChatGPT, are based on generative language models, so not all the answers you receive will be accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to casual conversation, AI can assist you in finding scientific information. Some databases, such as UEF Primo, Scopus, and Web of Science, include their own AI tools that search within scientific publications. Make use of these tools as part of your information retrieval process to find scholarly articles, research studies, and other academic materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Always remember to use AI ethically, securely, and in compliance with copyright regulations! <\/strong>Do not provide confidential or private information to AI. Organisations usually have their own AI guidelines that must be followed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students at UEF are expected to follow UEF\u2019s guidelines: <a href=\"https:\/\/kamu.uef.fi\/en\/tietopankki\/students-rights-and-obligations\/the-use-of-ai-in-teaching-and-research\/\">AI policy for students at the University of Eastern Finland<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read on the library\u2019s website how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uef.fi\/en\/library\/artificial-intelligence-in-information-retrieval\">AI helps with information retrieval<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\t<div id=\"accordion-block_c9e938d8702e5523e3e17339baaadd37\" class=\"accordions\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-767\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-767\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThink creatively and brainstorm with AI\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-767\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-767\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The easiest way to start is by trying a generative, conversational AI, which can help you come up with search words. <a href=\"https:\/\/kamu.uef.fi\/en\/tietopankki\/students-rights-and-obligations\/the-use-of-ai-in-teaching-and-research\/\">UEF provides its own version of Microsoft Copilot, which you can access using your UEF Microsoft account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Try using AI to brainstorm your search topic<br \/>\n<\/strong>Clarify and expand your topic and research questions. AI can be especially helpful when analysing a new or unfamiliar subject.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Let AI suggest keywords<br \/>\n<\/strong>AI can assist in analysing your topic and generating keywords and search phrases. It can also translate keywords\u2014for example, from Finnish to English.<br \/>\nExample prompt:\u00a0Can you suggest keywords for this topic: \u201cyour topic\u201d?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ask for synonyms of key concepts<br \/>\n<\/strong>AI may sometimes struggle to separate keywords from full sentences or topics, which can lead to inaccurate suggestions. However, it\u2019s worth trying AI for listing synonyms of individual keywords.<br \/>\nExample prompt: What are synonyms for the word \u201cartificial intelligence\u201d?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As your information retrieval and AI skills develop, review AI-generated suggestions carefully, apply them thoughtfully, and test their effectiveness with a critical mindset.<\/p>\n<h4>Creating a Search Query with a Conversational AI<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>You can ask AI to generate more advanced search queries<\/strong><br \/>\nExample prompt:\u00a0Can you create a database search query with keywords and Boolean operators for \u201cown topic\u201d?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Make sure the search query works effectively:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Do not blindly trust the suggested search words.<br \/>\nAlways verify them using other sources. Test how well the search terms work in academic databases.
