Here is how the author describe his work: One of the major impacts of the COVID-19 has been enforced social and physical distancing. This has been especially harmful to the well-being of older people, whose isolation has been further accentuated during the pandemic. In response to this situation, Ronald Sultana, member of the Faculty of Education and EMCER director at the University of Malta, began a daily dialogue over the phone with his 90-year-old father, Michael, asking him to recall and narrate a memory that had special meaning and significance in his life. Ronald wrote up these recollections and vignettes, organised them chronologically, and illustrated each of them with photos. The resulting book, published by Xirocco, provides a unique and engaging portrait of a civil servant and family man, from his early childhood in Xag\u0127ra Gozo, through the war and his long career in education, where he moved through the ranks from teacher to Director of Primary Schools. The narrative, based on a life-history approach, provides interesting perspectives and insights on a range of issues, which resonate with both the personal and the political in a lifetime of experience and an experience of a life time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
