He was born in Czeliabinsk, Russia in 1961. He\u00a0graduated from Mykhailo Drahomanov National Pedagogical\u00a0University (Kyiv) and received his Candidate (1987) and Doctoral (1993) diplomas from the Institute of the History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv. He specializes in the social, intellectual, and political history of Ukraine from the\u00a019th to 21st centuries. He is an author, coauthor, and coeditor of about twenty monographs, coauthor of about thirty collective volumes, and numerous articles published in Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, Belorussian, English,\u00a0German, Finnish, French, Czech, Spanish, and Turkish.\u00a0\u00a0His current areas of interest are memory politics and security issues related to the use and misuse of history and memory in international relations.\u00a0His most recent monograph is <em>Memory Crash.
