Acknowledge
It is important to acknowledge the Bioinformatics Center for any of its services—such as computing infrastructure or expert support—in publications where these have contributed to the work. Below are instructions on how to properly acknowledge the Bioinformatics Center or its personnel, along with an explanation of why this is essential.
Why Acknowledge
Proper acknowledgment provides a visible measure of the Bioinformatics Center’s impact on research and supports the ongoing development of its infrastructure. Additionally, the Bioinformatics Center’s personnel are scientists. When they make a substantial intellectual contribution to a publication, they deserve recognition, just like any co-author. Acknowledgment also supports their career advancement.
When to Acknowledge
Acknowledge the Bioinformatics Center whenever its services have supported your research. If a staff member has made a significant intellectual contribution beyond routine analysis, please consider co-authorship as well.
Where to Acknowledge
Include acknowledgments in papers, posters, presentations, and all scholarly publications.
How to Acknowledge
If a staff member’s contribution does not warrant co-authorship, a mention in the Acknowledgements section of the manuscript is sufficient. Be sure to also acknowledge the Bioinformatics Center if your work utilized its computing infrastructure. Always ensure the Bioinformatics Center is referred to correctly.
For example:
- “This work/part of this work was carried out with the support of the UEF Bioinformatics Center and Biocenter Kuopio, University of Eastern Finland, Finland.”
- “The computational analyses were performed on servers provided by the UEF Bioinformatics Center and Biocenter Kuopio, University of Eastern Finland, Finland.”
