FinnGen partnership

FinnGen is a collaborative research project, whose goal is to improve our understanding of disease predisposition, mechanisms, and progression by analyzing genetic and health data using advanced approaches in statistical genetics. The collaboration involves Finnish universities, hospitals, well-being service counties, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), biobanks, and thirteen international pharmaceutical companies.  FinnGen has collected and analyzed genome and health data from 520,000 Finnish biobank donors to investigate the genetic basis of disease and promote the development of precision medicine.

The FinnGen data is available for all the research partners of FinnGen and offers a unique opportunity to incorporate vast genomic information to your research.

Data types included in FinnGen.

The Bioinformatics Center of University of Eastern Finland is part of the local FinnGen research network. We offer a broad spectrum of services from consultation to analysis of FinnGen data, for example:

  • How to get access to FinnGen data
  • How to write your research proposal for FinnGen
  • How to define your study cohorts
  • How to run standard and customized GWAS analyses
  • How to access the results produced by other FinnGen projects

If you are interested in using FinnGen data in your research projects and need guidance at any step of the process, don’t hesitate to contact us at bioinformatics@uef.fi or by filling the Bioinformatics Center service request form.
