Welcome

Welcome to IRN Cold Forests Conference 2022 in Joensuu, October 6-8, 2022!

The IRN on Cold Forests is an international research consortium that studies how northern hemisphere mountain and boreal ecosystems function. The ecological and socio-economic challenges linked to the study of these ecosystems are fundamental in a changing climate, societies and societal objectives. Cold forests provide major ecosystem services, but their ecological uniqueness highlights the need for an understanding of their functioning over long time scales.

The Cold Forests consortium aims at increasing collaborations among different international partners, including research groups from Canada, China, Finland, France, Norway, and Sweden. It is also a training center for master and doctorate students in paleoecology, forest ecology, climate modeling, and biodiversity management. Training takes the form of numerous development internships within and outside the international research network.
