Drug design & Molecular Modeling (DDMM) and Medicinal Chemistry & Organic Synthesis (MCOS) facilities at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF; Kuopio campus) represent an essential medicinal chemistry center that supports and advances the drug discovery and development projects & larger programs.
Thus, we provide services from early-stage drug discovery, through lead optimization, to highly potent novel target-based clinical drug candidates that have fine-tuned pharmacokinetic properties, by using computational drug design, medicinal chemistry, and bioanalytical methods.
DDMM & MCOS units are part of the Drug Discovery and Chemical Biology (DDCB) consortium (Prof. Päivi Tammela, University of Helsinki) that is a Biocenter Finland and Biocenter Kuopio -supported national research infrastructure platform for academic researchers in Finland. DDCB coordinates infrastructure and expertise in the areas of drug discovery and chemical biology, and makes it available to the scientific community.
MCOS unit is also part of the the roadmap for national research infrastructures in Finland (FIRI2024) that is in turn a partner of EU-OPENSCREEN European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) dedicated to supporting academic researchers and companies aiming to utilise chemical biology tools to advance basic research or early drug discovery projects.
