Nord+ IP 2025 Finland

The Nord+ IP course under the theme “Sustainable transition strategies and development for depopulating and peripheral localities in the European North” took place from the 9^th – 23^rd of May 2025, in Eastern Finland. The 2 week course was hosted by the University of Eastern Finland and 25 students from 5 GEONORDBALT partner Universities participated.

The course provided lectures, excursion, a 4 day fieldwork component and an intensive report writing phase. Overall, students produced almost 200 pages of reports in their works on the 4 chosen cases of shrinking localities and their sustainable development challenges and potentials. Case localities where Hyrynsalmi, Ristijärvi, Paltamo and Kuhmo in Kainuu Region (see map below).
