April 10, 2024 Dana Roemling (University of Birmingham) “From Words to Evidence: An Introduction to Forensic Linguistics”

Abstract

In this talk I provide an introduction to forensic linguistics, the study of language when it is relevant to the forensic context. I start by introducing both investigative linguistics and language and law as the main branches within forensic linguistics, before delving deeper into forensic authorship analysis. During the talk I use famous criminal cases to explore the methodologies used in forensic linguistics.
