Meheli Banerjee: Inside DPMM Winter School: A Glimpse into the Exciting World of Research and Collaboration

Joining the Neuro-Innovation programme to conduct research on RNA in the brain evidently meant that I would also be a part of University of Eastern Finland’s Doctoral Programme in Molecular Medicine (DPMM). Along with many other perks of this programme, the researchers of DPMM get to be a part of Winter school. Winter school is a rite of passage for most of the DPMM researchers and it is an amazing place to start off presenting your work among peers. This exposure helps most researchers to gain meaningful feedback on their work, gather ideas from different fields of study, and hone their presentation skills.

Winter School might have been initially started in the winter but now it mostly occurs during the spring or summer. I first attended Winter School in August of 2022 where I presented my initial work of four months in the form of a poster. This year I decided I wanted to be more involved in the event and volunteered to be a part of the organizing committee. I was able to experience the amount of effort that goes into planning an event and the satisfaction of being a part of a smooth-running event. Along with presenting my poster, this year, I volunteered to chair one of the sessions which was quite a new experience for me. Enjoy the short video which briefly covers Winter school as I experienced it.
