The Health Economics research group at University of Eastern Finland will host the 43rd Nordic Health Economists’ Study Group (NHESG) meeting on 21-23 August 2024. The conference will be held at University of Eastern Finland’s campus in Kuopio.
The Nordic Health Economics Study Group aims to bring together researchers who are working in the area of health economics and to promote continuous development of health economics as a sub-discipline of economics. Papers on all topics within health economics are welcome. Submitted papers representing various stages of the research process are expected. The conference language is English.
We are happy to announce that we have 40 papers under discussion, presenting the latest Nordic and European health economics research.
The usual NHESG procedural rules will apply: The discussant – and not the author – will present the paper, including both a summary and a discussion. Further information on the procedural rules can be found here: NHESG. Each paper is allocated 40 minutes. All participants will have the opportunity to download submitted papers. Access to papers will be restricted to registered participants.
Keynote speakers
We are pleased to announce that we have two Keynote speakers sharing their viewpoints on the estimation and consequences of the cost-effectiveness threshold. James Lomas, University of York, and Kurt Brekke, NHH Norwegian School of Economics, will give keynotes based on their latest research in the field.
James Lomas
Lecturer
University of York, Department of Economics and Related Studies
Lecturer James Lomas will give a keynote on an empirical perspective regarding cost-effectiveness thresholds and pharmaceutical pricing. His research is focused on applied microeconometric analysis that answers the empirical questions posed in the context of economic evaluation and cost-effectiveness analysis. He is interested in estimating the marginal productivity of health care systems and economic evaluation methods to inform decision-makers.
Kurt Brekke
Professor
NHH Norwegian School of Economics, Department of Economics
Professor Kurt Brekke introduces a different perspective on the topic of cost-effectiveness threshold. He will explore the impact of transparency on the pricing and launch incentives within the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in the context of prioritizing new medicines in Norway. In his recent research, Brekke applies Industrial Organization theory and focuses on supply-side incentives to influence the CE thresholds and entry decisions. His main research field is industrial organization with a focus on competition and regulation policy, especially in healthcare and pharmaceutical markets. He is part of an expert committee appointed by the government on prioritization of new medicines in Norway.
