Host City

Joensuu is the capital of North Karelia. The city has a population of 76,500. Nearly a quarter of the population is between the ages of 16 and 29, and the university’s campus brings together more than 9,000 students.

Joensuu is a place where a peaceful environment meets a rich offering of culture and hobby opportunities. In July, during the Ilosaarirock Rock Festival, the city in full of tens of thousands of festival-goers, and the Rokumentti Film Festival will bring a boost to the autumn. Town also offers great theatre and music events throughout the year.

City is also referred to as the Forestry Capital of Europe. The beautiful scenery and the unspoilt lakes and rivers offer almost endless possibilities for sports and recreation.  Indeed, Joensuu is home to approximately one hundred different sports clubs. Koli National Park, located near City of Joensuu, offers memorable national landscapes and hiking trails.


Conference venue – the campus of University of Eastern Finland

The conference will be held at Aurora II and Carelia buildings.

Walking distance from the campus area to the city centre market square is 900 metres. The easiest way to get to the campus area from city centre (hotels) is the walk alog Koskikatu or Siltakatu.

The campus is home to more than 9,000 degree students, so be prepared for a lively atmosphere and corridors filled with happy chatter.
The Joensuu Campus is compact, easy to access and accessible. The campus is located right by the city center. Most of the campus buildings are located along Yliopistokatu.
