Welcome to the International Conference on Nano-, Tera-, and Bio-Photonics, taking place in Joensuu, Finland, from 17 to 21 August 2026!

The International Conference on Nano-, Tera-, and Bio-Photonics will bring together leading experts who employ photonics as a research tool alongside scientists developing cutting‑edge photonics‑based techniques and methodologies. Its program spans a broad spectrum of disciplines – from condensed matter physics and electrodynamics to biophysics and biomedical sciences – highlighting the unifying power of light‑based technologies across diverse areas of modern research. Invited speakers will showcase recent breakthroughs, including advances in the fundamental understanding of optical properties of novel two‑dimensional materials, developments in quantum sensing, and state‑of‑the‑art bioimaging and spectroscopy for biomedical applications.
The strongly interdisciplinary nature of the conference will foster a highly collaborative environment designed to catalyze the formation of new research consortia. These collaborations will support both fundamental and applied research, enhance European technological readiness, strengthen innovation capacity, and accelerate the translation of photonics‑based solutions into real‑world applications.
The conference is organized at the Department of Physics and Mathematics, University of Eastern Finland and the Center for Photonics Sciences. Its scientific scope aligns closely with the research activities of Joensuu Photonics and supports the objectives of the Finnish Photonics Flagship. The invited speakers are internationally recognized leaders of research groups worldwide.
