ASTRO
Assessment and Abatement Strategies for Combustion-derived Secondary Organic Aerosol Emissions (ASTRO)
Duration: 2016-2018
Funding: Academy of Finland
Combustion and industrial processes generate substantial fine particle emissions to ambient air, which are inducing globally significant adverse health and climate effects. However, the current methodologies used in particle emission measurements do not consider a significant emission component, namely the secondary organic aerosol (SOA) which is formed from combustion-derived organic gases in the atmosphere. This Project, funded by Academy of Finland, develops and validates a novel method for simulation of SOA emission formation in a laboratory setup, provides information on combustion-derived SOA emissions and technical solutions for the abatement of SOA emissions.
