EUROCHAMP-2020: Integrate the most advanced European atmospheric simulation chambers into a world-class infrastructure for research and innovation.

The most advanced tools for interpreting processes that occur in the atmosphere are atmospheric simulation chambers. Chamber experiments produce new scientific information for development of air quality and climate models and support interpretation of field measurements. The atmospheric aging processes influence significantly the key properties of combustion emissions with respect to their health and environmental effects. Especially, night time aging and aging of mixed emissions have not been studied extensively, in spite of their significant importance to climate and toxicological properties. In this project, we will fill out gaps of knowledge by conducting complex emission aging experiments. We utilize the experimental results in toxicological analyses and climate models, in order to advance development of exposure studies estimating health effects of air pollutants and develop more accurate estimations for climatic effects of aerosols.
The core of the project is the environmental chamber in the Aerosol Physics, Chemistry, and Toxicology Research Unit, ILMARI, at the University of Eastern Finland (to EUROCHAMP web page). Project is carried out in the close collaboration with the Atmospheric Research Centre of Eastern Finland of FMI and the Aerosol physics group at the Department of Applied Physics of UEF.
