”Coral” Finnic Phonetics Symposium

The University of Eastern Finland campus in Joensuu opens its doors for the participants of the 35th Finnic Phonetics Symposium 25-26 August 2022. 

The Finnic Phonetics Symposium (Fonetiikan päivät / Foneetika päevad) in an annual conference, where various phonetics-related topics are discussed – such as, for example,  spoken language and voice research, speech therapy, and speech technology. The Symposium is held in Finland and Estonia but is usually joined by the participants from other European countries.

This year, the scientific program includes both presentations and posters and a technical workshop. Besides researchers, educators and students, field experts, for example, from clinical and forensic sciences, and speech technology companies, are expected at the symposium. Working languages are Finnish and English.

Guidelines for the presenters 

Presentations
Presentations are held in room AT100, Agora building. The beamer is connected to the lecture hall’s computer, which is connected to the Internet. You can upload your presentation on the computer during break time.
Presentations have to be in a format suitable to be used with Windows OS. Recommended formats are .pptx and .pdf.
Presentation duration is 15 minutes, after which there is five minutes for questions and discussion.
Session chairs present the speakers and keep the session moving according to the schedule.

Posters
Poster presentations are held on Thursday, August 25th, 13.45–15.00.
Poster biggest size is A0 (portrait orientation). The things necessary to attach the posters are available on-site.
Posters can be hung during break time. The presenters must take care of that themselves.

Taking part in the conference workshop 

If you are going to take part in the pre-conference workshop “Introduction to PsychoPy” on Wednesday, 24.08.2022 16:00-18:00, please bring your own laptop. Please have PsychoPy installed. The instructions can be found at https://www.psychopy.org/download.html.

  • The abstract must be maximum one page long, including references.

Participation fees
Symposium participation fee: 35 EUR (students) / 50 EUR (non-students)
Participation fee includes coffee and lunch on both Symposium days.
Evening get-together participation fee: 55 EUR

There are several hotels in Joensuu that are offering discounts to the Phonetics Symposium participants. The offers will be described in the information letter upon acceptance.
