Welcome to Kuopio Biomedical Imaging Unit (Kuopio-BIU)
Intro
Kuopio Biomedical Imaging Unit (Kuopio-BIU) provides open access services for biological research. It provides excellent facilities for small animal in vivo imaging and ex vivo MRI microscopy in different areas of basic and applied research. The strength of Kuopio-BIU is international level small animal MRI and strong combination of different imaging modalities together with the excellent quality and variety of different animal models, biotechnology and contrast molecule synthesis found at the University of Eastern Finland. Kuopio-BIU is part of the Biocenter Kuopio, the Finnish Biomedical Imaging Node (FiBI) in the pan-European Euro-BioImaging consortium, and serves as the national pre-clinical MRI center.
The imaging unit is located in A.I.Virtanen Institute, University of Eastern Finland, and it consists of five MRI scanners operating from 0.7 T to 11.7 T, a dDNP hyperpolariser, a microCT and two PET systems, one of which allows simultaneous PET/MRI, for small animal imaging. For further information see our services and facilities pages.
