Kuopio PMIP
Kuopio Preclinical Molecular Imaging Platform (Kuopio PMIP)
Kuopio Biomedical Imaging Unit (Kuopio BIU) together with Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) and companies started a molecular imaging platform to develop molecular imaging in the Eastern Finland area.
KUH has the radiopharmacy facilities to produce PET (Positron Emission Tomography) tracers that also support the usability of PET imaging for research purposes at the University of Eastern Finland and the surrounding region.
Project
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project name:
Molecular imaging as a generator for innovation and development in health and drug development cluster
Project Code: A71429
Partners: Charles River, Orion Pharma and FinVector
Our project aims to maximize the use of existing local investments (cyclotron and radiochemistry laboratory at KUH, preclinical PET imaging device and hyperpolarizer at UEF) both in private and public sector innovation and development activities. During this project we are launching and creating a preclinical molecular imaging research service concept that will be provided to businesses and research groups.
The outcome of this project will be a permanent preclinical radiopharmaceutical development platform. Thus it will combine the radio tracer production at KUH and the preclinical PET imaging of local companies and the BioNMR imaging unit at UEF and enable the availability of preclinical PET radiopharmaceuticals in corporate and university research projects.
The results of this project can be transferred to clinical trials and projects aimed at novel treatments. Thus it will support the drug development path as well as innovative translational medicine.
