Welcome to NOVEL: a pioneering Postdoctoral Programme at the University of Eastern Finland!

NOVEL is an innovative postdoctoral programme hosted by the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) in Finland, co-funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) COFUND under the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme.

The world faces an urgent need for novel solutions in brain health. With aging populations, brain diseases are becoming more prevalent, posing significant health and societal challenges. There is a critical demand for precision medicine to enable early prediction, novel treatments, technological advancements, and ethically sound approaches to well-being. To address this, the NOVEL programme focuses on pioneering solutions in brain health.

Our programme provides interdisciplinary and intersectoral postdoctoral training in four key areas of brain health research:

  • Prevention and Care
  • Methods and Data
  • Innovation and Society
  • Ethics and Well-being

At NOVEL, we offer postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to conduct high-impact research supported by top-tier training. By integrating UEF’s world-class neuroscience expertise with innovation management and social, legal, and data science expertise, the programme fosters unique interdisciplinary competence and prepares future leaders in brain health research.

What sets NOVEL apart is its comprehensive approach to cultivating talent through interdisciplinary and intersectoral training. Researchers will benefit from a collaborative environment enriched by robust regional and national partnerships, creating a vibrant research community.
