Growth from Moss North Karelia is a JTF project by the University of Eastern Finland (1.1.2024-31.5.2026) that aims to develop the cultivation of sphagnum mosses on former peat production areas. The goal of the cultivation is to find a solution to replace horticultural peat with renewable moss biomass production.

In the project’s pilot areas, we develop solutions for the establishment of cultivation areas, water management, and growth optimization. Growth conditions are also studied in a greenhouse setting. The placement of cultivation areas within peatland complexes is investigated using remote sensing and spatial data analysis.

We are seeking collaboration in the development of cultivation areas and the restoration of peatlands – please contact us!
