Kuu kuorosta kesään / A Month From Choir to Summer: Finnish Folk Songs in the Spring Concert on Friday, April 26th 2024
How do you know that the summer is right around the corner? Well, the birds are returning to Finland after the winter, the snow is slowly melting and everyday there is more and more sunlight! ☀️ One clear sign is also our spring concert! This year the theme is Finnish folk songs. So, you’ll get to hear beautiful traditional songs and more upbeat, happy singing! 🌻

Open rehearsals on the 23rd of January at 18 o´clock in Snellmania’s SN100 auditorium
UEF Kuopio Student Union organises open rehearsals at the beginning of the year, January 23rd at 18 o’clock. For these rehearsals, you can come, see and listen to what choral singing can be like at the university and whether this could be a good hobby for you as well. The open rehearsals include elements of normal rehearsals like vocal warm-ups and singing, but you also get to hear greetings from our choir director Richard and members of the board of the association that maintains the choir, so you get a good picture of what we do.
After the rehearsals, we will provide further information on joining the choir and we hope you could give us (Richard and a couple of our board members) a singing example. You can sing Ave Maria for us, but something like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star will work as well. There is no need to stress over this audition! The purpose is to listen together to what kind of sound register you have and after that, fit you into parts of Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Bass. If you are unable to attend the open rehearsals on the 23rd, but you still would be interested in joining the choir, or you have any questions, please contact us by email: yo-kuoro@student.uef.fi.
To join the choir you don’t have to be a student at the University of Eastern Finland. Our choir has also had members of university personnel, aupairs, exchange students and people having a gap year. Everyone is welcome!
The Christmas Concert of 2023
The UEF Kuopio Student Choir had a Christmas concert with the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. We sang accompanied by the orchestra, but also with all the concert quests. The concert was conducted by a legendary Finnish conductor, emeritus professor Atso Almila. The University of Eastern Finland got together with the Orchestra and they produced a video with us to send the Season’s greetings, watch it below!
