LogoLab
The multidisciplinary research environment LogoLab, located in the Agora building on the Joensuu campus, consists of a speech research laboratory and simulation teaching facilities. The focal point of the laboratory is the approximately 7 square meter (sqm) silent room, which is used for various measurements and high-quality sound recording. Research equipment includes near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), electroencephalography (EEG), three-dimensional motion measurements of the face and mouth area (EMA, electromagnetic articulography), measurement of vocal fold contact (EGG, electroglottography), a sound level meter (class 1), a screening-level audiometer, and multiple sound recording devices and microphones, including ear simulators. Many of the equipment are also usable simultaneously (fNIRS + EEG, for example), further diversifying the possible research setups.
The goal is for the laboratory to become an actively functioning multidisciplinary research and innovation center that has an impact both in Eastern Finland and nationally. Our cooperation network extends beyond the university campus and focuses on areas such as the development of rehabilitation applications, research collaborations, and equipment rental services.
The construction of the LogoLab research environment has been made possible through the LogoLab I and II projects, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the North Karelia Regional Council.
