UEF’s 10th anniversary campaign conserves a swamp
In celebration of its 10th anniversary in 2020, the University of Eastern Finland will donate 10,000 euros to the UEF10 Swamp Conservation Campaign carried out in collaboration with the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation. Funds donated to the campaign will be used to establish a private swamp conservation area in eastern Finland for recreational and research use.
After the campaign ends in late 2020, the area to be purchased will be conserved in accordance with the Finnish Nature Conservation Act. Normal everyman’s rights (freedom to roam) enabling recreational use of the area will apply to the nature reserve, and possibilities for research activities will be determined in the conservation agreement. Hunting, removal of plants or parts of trees, damaging the soil, camping and using a motorised vehicle will be prohibited.
