The Finnish Society for Ethnomusicology and the Department of Cultural Studies at the University of Eastern Finland invites all researchers interested in music to participate in the Finnish national symposium of music scholars.
The symposium will be held in Joensuu, Finland, on March 25–27, 2024.
The theme of the symposium is “echoes and reflections”. These can be understood as metaphorically related to the different functions and contexts of music, memory, communication between people and communities, the musical continuity of culture, or the cultural meanings of music in a broader sense. In concrete terms, echoes and reflections are related to acoustics of music and archaeoacoustics. The theme can also lead to reflection on the different ways in which musicology and music education have adopted and are adopting echoes from other disciplines, while building their own continuum.
