Water and Marine Environmental Law
The focus of water law research is to analyse and understand how law, as an instrument and social institution, effectively and legitimately facilitates and guides, but also impedes, the movement of public and private actors towards certain societal goals.
Our group focuses on the study of law and society from a spatial river basin perspective, drawing on theories of social-ecological systems and adaptive governance. Our approach to water and environmental law is multi-level and multi-sectoral, considering it as a broad societal issue.
Our group is made up of environmental law and policy scholars who collaborate with other legal fields, scientific disciplines and research institutions around the world.
The operation of the group consists of monthly research group meetings under specific water-related themes and annual international conference on water law and governance.
