Title: Designing a gamified learning framework for K-12 AI education – An integrated approach

Abstract: Gamification has brought many changes to traditional learning methods and has proven to increase learners’ ability to learn new skills in many disciplines, especially in computing education. Although previous studies have described the use of AI tools and platforms in K-12 classrooms, little is known about designing the AI learning experience with engaging pedagogies. Teaching artificial intelligence depends mainly on manipulating data in its various forms, which requires updating the existing gamification elements used in teaching rule-driven programming. The present study aims to fill the gap in the existing literature by suggesting new gamification elements based on data analysis, training, and testing in teaching artificial intelligence. My research aims to develop a data-driven AI learning framework by extending the elements of the gamification (MDA) framework, which consists of several stages of individual training using data-driven game elements, and central testing stages, with thorough analysis of strategies to keep the gamified activity engaging and the trajectories of students’ engagement.

11:00-11:15, Wrap-up, general discussion, announcements, etc.
