Technology-enhanced learning in laboratories (TELL 2023)

We are glad to announce that the European Network for Virtual lab & Interactive SImulated ONline learning_2027 (ENVISION 2027) will organize an online Workshop in April 2023 focused on the learning analytics of practical and simulated learning, titled: “Technology-enhanced learning in laboratories”

This online workshop will be hosted by the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and the Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE) from the University of Bergen (UiB), Norway.

Workshop description

Focus and aims:

  • The workshop aims to understand the global practices of virtual labs and simulated learning.
  • The workshop will focus on how technology can support education with its Learning Analytics and computer-supported applications.
  • The workshop brings together researchers from different countries and various disciplinary traditions to present their research on virtual labs, remote learning, learning analytics, and computer-supported education, to discuss their use in learning support.

Call for proposals:

  • Researches are kindly encouraged to contribute to and help shape the workshop through submissions of their research abstracts and papers (instructions below).
  • The workshop invites both junior and senior scholars to present their work.
  • We welcome papers that address, for example, the following questions (not limited to the list):
    1. How to support virtual laboratory and teamwork course modules through the use of Learning Analytics (LA)?
    2. How can virtual labs /VR complement teaching by replacing expensive equipment or potentially dangerous laboratory exercises?
    3. How can students learn essential laboratory skills through personalized teaching, guided by real-time LA?
    4. What are teaching obstacles of laboratory work including teamwork in their transition to digital teaching
    5. How do new emerging technologies overcome difficulties and obstacles in education?

Instructions for abstract submission

High-quality research contributions describing original and unpublished results of conceptual, constructive, empirical, experimental, or theoretical work in virtual labs and interactive simulated online learning are invited for presentation at the workshop. The workshop solicits contributions in the form of abstracts and papers that address the themes and topics of the workshop .

An abstract should be submitted by February 15th, 2023 for both full papers and oral presentations. The deadline for full paper submissions is March 25th, 2023. All submissions will be peer-reviewed.

Submission types:

  1. A full paper (6-14 pages), which will be published in the CEUR Workshop Proceedings if accepted, or
  2. An abstract (150-500 words) for oral presentation only. Oral presentation time will be 15 minutes plus discussion.

Paper Manuscript :

  • The length of the manuscript is 6-14 pages (excluding references). Please use CEUR template [download the template].
  • The manuscript should include: abstract, introduction, theoretical background, methods, results, and discussion/conclusions. Depending on the topic and field of research, also other structure is possible.
    • Add at least three keywords, that describe your research
  • The research should be original and not published elsewhere.
  • For references, please follow numbered elsarticle style, that is used in the template. For more information, see e.g. https://www.bibtex.com/s/bibliography-style-elsarticle-elsarticle-num/
  • Please prepare a blind review version of your manuscript for submission.
  • KINDLY NOTE: An article in workshop proceedings requires a presentation at a workshop.

Accepted full papers will be included into workshop proceedings and published in CEUR Workshop Proceedings (CEUR-WS.org). CEUR is indexed in Scopus and Finnish JUFO Level 1.

Timeline:

    • The abstract submission for oral presentations is March 25th, 2023
    • The deadline for the full paper submission is March 25th, 2023
    • The review board will review the papers, and a notice of acceptance will be sent to the corresponding author by  April 5th 2023.
    • Registration for the event is open from 1st to April 25th, 2023
    • The workshop will take place on April 26, 2023.

The workshop is co-funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ program within the project “European Network for Virtual lab & Interactive SImulated ONline learning (ENVISION_2027)
