Research group of Technologies for Learning and Development at the School of Computing, University of Eastern Finland, designs, investigates and develops solutions for learning and development in a digitalised society. Together with the Learning Analytics and Interactive Technologies research groups, we form the Future Technologies research area in the School of Computing.
Our research involves, for example, studies of tools and models for computational thinking, investigating the role of digitalization in society, designing and experimenting with digital solutions for learning and development, as well as developing novel solutions and interventions for computing education. The current research interests of our group are digital learning environments, educational data mining, AI in education, VR/AR technologies in education, design research in educational technology, computing education, computational thinking, and ICT for development.
Our R&D projects have been funded by prominent governmental, academic, and commercial organisations such as the Academy of Finland, the European Commission, the European Social Fund, the National Technology Agency of Finland, and Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An essential aspect of our research activities is the IMPDET online doctoral studies, which provides doctoral training related to the group’s research interests around the globe. We have launched IMPDET doctoral training hubs in collaboration with the College of Business Education in Tanzania and Makerere University of Business School in Uganda to improve the quality, relevance, and impact of research activities of the two Sub-Saharan African higher education institutions.
