Promotion of well-being and health

In the area of promotion of well-being and health, we study the effectiveness of the prevention of welfare inequalities and diseases, and the promotion of welfare and health. Our research themes are related to, among other things, the promotion of the health and well-being of disadvantaged groups, the prevention of type 2 diabetes and the improvement of the effectiveness of activities aimed at the promotion of the health and well-being of older people. In research, we make use of inclusive co-development methods and digital approaches.

  • T2-Data. We utilize existing unique data collected in the StopDia and DPS projects on human lifestyles, their process of change, metabolomics, and inheritance. Based on our knowledge, in the T2D-Data project we will develop better targeted and personalized services for the prevention of type 2 diabetes. 
  • Health4all@EU, Interprofessional European eHealth Programme in Higher Education project will address the high demand for health professionals to be competent and confident in eHealth. This collaborative, multidisciplinary, pan-European project aims to develop, implement and evaluate an interprofessional eHealth training programme for graduate students – the next generation of professionals – in higher education.
  • OSTPRE – Kuopio Osteoporosis Risk Factor and Prevention Study determines whether older women can improve their ability to function, prevent falls and improve well-being by providing them with guided physical activity twice a week and a year of free access to communal exercise facilities. At the same time, information is also collected on diagnoses of diseases, the use of medications and the use of social and health services.
