Applications of photonics

This year’s Applications of Photonics webinar series is now over. A big thank you to all presenters and participants!

We hope all participants could fill in a short feedback survey on this year’s webinar series.

We also hope to see you again next year!

UEF’s popular Photonics Master of Science -program’s course “Applications of Photonics” is held this year as a series of hybrid lectures in Joensuu & online in Microsoft Teams. The course is organized in collaboration with PREIN flagship and Photonics Finland

Schedule of the Applications of Photonics course.

Hosted by Professor Jyrki Saarinen on 25.10.-13.12. (company lectures on 28.10.-25.11.),  the lectures consist of applications of photonics and company overviews given by professionals of the field from various companies, and after each lecture, a dedicated discussion section offers networking possibilities to listeners from all around the world.

Moreover, the lectures are also included in the Month of Photonics, PSRS Industrial Days and IMLEX Days.

Lectures can be joined in set presentation locations in Joensuu, or online via Microsoft Teams. Joining the lectures is free and open for everyone, and does not require taking part in the Photonics M.Sc. program.

You can join the lectures:

  • virtually using Microsoft Teams or
  • in person at Spark Joensuu (Tiedepuisto 3A building, 4th floor, Network Oasis).

  • New presentation on Thursday, November 25th – replacing Brighterwave:
  • Dr. John Lincoln, Photonics UK
  • John is Chief Executive of the UK Photonics Leadership Group supporting the alignment of policy, industry and research strategy in the £14.5bn UK Photonics industry.  John has over 30 years’ experience in the laser and optics. He has developed commercial lasers and components impacting across society, raised venture capital funds, secured substantial trade sales and steered influential policy. John has run his own business development consultancy, Harlin Ltd, since 2006 helping SMEs, Universities, VCs and governments to identify growth opportunities and the impact of photonics at the product, company, national and international level.  He provides industrial liaison for the Future Photonics Hub at the Universities of Southampton and Sheffield and advises on European strategy for SPIE as well as sitting on multiple advisory boards.  John has also pioneered quantification of the size of the Photonics, Acoustics and Fluid Dynamics industries in the UK and internationally.
